The Irish Justice Minister Alan Shatter is rushing through new laws to give the Gardai more powers in advance of the G8 Summit in Fermanagh next month.
Citing the ‘threat of terrorism’ as a justification, ministers are pushing for the ability to cut off mobile phone signal in selected areas; yet another use of anti-terrorism legislation as a means to curb the rights of protesters.
