Research from the University of Manchester has shown how the use of police ‘gang databases’ leads to the frequency of stop and searches increasing, in relation to association and skin colour rather than any frequency or severity of the individual’s offending.
Yet another reason to make us laugh at the idea that institutional racism has disappeared from the force. Almost fifteen years since the MacPherson report was published the police force, as made evident by research and lived experience, remains incapable of reforming itself.
